Keeping Kitsap Clean

Here are some ways you can help keep Kitsap Clean:

Install a pet waste pickup station

The Kitsap County Mutt Mitt program provides pet waste pickup stations for qualifying areas. Learn more.

Cover & secure your vehicle's load

If you haul waste or debris in an open truck or trailer, you must cover your load every time. Not only is it illegal to drive with an uncovered or unsecured load, it contributes to water pollution and roadside litter.

Adopt-a-Road, beach, trail, or park

Is your group or business looking for a quick and satisfying way to make a difference in our community? Sick of seeing litter on your neighborhood walks? Become an Adopt-A-Road volunteer!

Prevent illegal dumping

If someone you hire hauls away materials and then dumps them illegally, you may be liable for cleanup and disposal costs. If you suspect someone is improperly disposing of materials, please file an online complaint or call 360.337.5777.

Hiring a waste hauler:

  • Hire a permitted waste hauling business. Call the Kitsap Public Health District at 360.728.2235 for a list of permitted hauling businesses.

  • Pay for waste removal up front, but wait to pay for disposal until you see a receipt from a legitimate garbage or recycling facility.

  • Ridiculously low prices indicates that your waste may be illegally dumped.

  • Ask the business you hire where they intend to recycle or get rid of materials.

Property owner tips:

  • Install gates or berms to prevent illegal entry onto your property.

  • Install "No Dumping" signs at access points to your property. Kitsap Public Health District provides these signs for victims of illegal dumping. Fill out an online form or call 360.728.2235 and ask for the Solid Waste staff on duty to inquire about signs.
