Below lists all the requirements to get you on your way to getting married!
Fee: The fee to apply for a Marriage License is $65.00. Cash, Check, Credit and Debit cards are accepted.
Applying For Your License: No appointment is necessary. Both parties need to be 18 years of age or older and should be present to apply if they want the license issued the same day. If you are unable to apply in person, you may request an application from our office to be mailed. If requesting by mail the Marriage Application it will need to be filled out and signed in front of a notary public (notary seal affixed to both names). Upon receipt of the completed application, the marriage license will be issued.
Waiting Period & Expiration: There is a 3-day waiting period, beginning the day after you apply. Once the 3-day waiting period has been met, the license must be used within 60 days and used only in the State of Washington.
Witnesses: Witnesses are not necessary to apply for a license, but state law requires that at least two witnesses be present at the ceremony.
Requirements: There are no blood tests, witnesses, birth certificates or divorce decrees required to apply for a marriage license in Kitsap County. If either party has been previously married, or has a registered domestic partner he/she needs to meet the requirements of the state in which he/she was divorced or registered. Divorces obtained in Kitsap County must be finalized and filed with the Clerk’s office before application for marriage can be made.
Age Requirements: Persons applying for a marriage license need to be 18 years ofage or older.
If either party is 17 years of age, consent of parent/legal guardian is required. If parent/legal guardian is not present at the time application is made, a notarized consent from parent/legal guardian must be presented.If either party is 16 years of age or younger, consent of parent/legal guardian and waiver from Juvenile Court is required to apply for a marriage license. Returning Application by Mail: Items to include: A completed and notarized Application of Marriage, including full names, with notary seal affixed to both names; $65.00 payment; and a phone number with instructions where to return the Certificate of Marriage.
