Auditor's Office to look into apparent election activity

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 29, 2022

PORT ORCHARD – The Kitsap County Auditor's office has been made aware of a Facebook conversation reporting that a person or persons are going door to door and asking people about their voter registration or information. This is not work our office is conducting and until now we had no knowledge of the activity. In the coming days we will see if we can identify the individuals or organization and will share what we learn.

Being a registered voter is public information. However, phone numbers and email addresses provided to our office are not public information. Citizens interested in elections and voting are able to get some voter data, including a voter’s address, and do sign an affidavit pledging to only use that data for political purposes. It is important to note that we have procedures in place to ensure that how an individual votes is not tracked. If someone asks for your voter information, it is your own personal decision as to whether you provide them your personal information.
