Description

Do you like to get out to local parks with friends and family? Do you belong to a sports organization that wants to know more about local fields and open spaces? South Kitsap County Commissioner Charlotte Garrido and the Kitsap County Parks Department invite the public to an open house presentation on the final draft of the 2018 Kitsap County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan update. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 in the Commissioners' Chambers of the Kitsap County Administration Building, 619 Division Street, Port Orchard.

A complete copy of the plan, including appendices, maps and previously submitted comments and replies, is available for review on the Parks Department website here. An online comment form is also posted.
County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the plan at their regular business meeting February 12, which begins at 5:30 p.m. in Poulsbo City Hall, 200 Moe St. NE, Poulsbo. (Please note the special location of this meeting.)

The Parks Advisory Board will formally review the plan during its regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Eagles Nest Community Room, 1195 NW Fairgrounds Road, Bremerton.

The Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan outlines goals, strategies, capital facilities planning and investment emphasis for the county park system that now encompasses over 10,000 acres. Public input collected since last summer is incorporated into the final draft that identifies key issues, strengths, and opportunities; provides guidelines and policy direction; and ensures parks continue to serve as integral to the county's social and economic development.

The 2018-2023 PROS plan is required to be eligible for state and federal grants administered by the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and must be updated every six years.
