 Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring Christmas trees to county disposal facilities?

Olympic View Transfer Station (OVTS) is the only county facility that recycles Christmas trees with yard waste. To recycle yard waste at OVTS, your load cannot be mixed with garbage. Other disposal facilities accept Christmas trees as solid waste and they will not be recycled.

Will my garbage hauler pick up my tree?

If you subscribe to curbside yard and food waste service, you can cut your tree until it fits into your container. Otherwise, trees left at the curb outside of a cart will not be collected.

Why can't I recycle flocked trees?

It can be difficult to tell what flocking material is actually made from. Tree recyclers do not want to risk adding harmful chemicals to their soil and mulch products. Flocked trees should be taken to a disposal facility. Or, cut the flocked tree into pieces and add small pieces to your garbage weekly until it's gone.

What happens to the trees that are collected?

Trees are chipped to become mulch or compost, some of which is used to grow more local Christmas trees.
