The Phase II burn ban prohibiting recreational fires was reduced to a Phase I ban on general outdoor burning at 8 a.m., Friday September 22. Recreational fires in campgrounds and other areas in approved locations and devices may resume throughout unincorporated Kitsap County. Recent rainfall allowed the higher level ban to be lifted. "Most of the area across the county have had at least some rain in the last ten days – some areas much more so than others," according to Kitsap County Fire Marshal David Lynam. General back yard burning as well as land clearing is still prohibited and all burning permits remain suspended for the duration of the Phase I ban.
